Static Mesh Improvement Mod Smim
Hello Brumbek and community, I was looking through the file list of the new update just out of curiosity and I noticed that this includes the ingredients hag claw and sabrecat tooth. It made me wonder something I've never really thought of before so thought I'd ask here. How would the game handle a scenario where a mod (like SMIM) adds a mesh that points to a custom named texture (eg. SMIM's smiminserttheusualtexturenamehere.dds) and another mod/texture pack has also included said same texture only under the default 'vanilla game filename'? With both being loose files would the game just use the SMIM version since the mesh, being under the default filename, would be loaded thus calling the custom named texture, and the other mods just not actually ever be used? It's kinda confusing since install would go as normal rather than show a conflict/ask for overwrite, I'd likely go on as usual never even realizing the texture replacer I installed was pointless lol, at least until I noticed it in-game being different or like now actually looked into the files structure and recognized the potential conflict. Could there be a chance of a real problem though, or would it be like I guessed and just a matter of aesthetics? Cheers Brumbek, you sir are the Daedric Lord of Meshes & Models and have helped me and many others enjoy this great game even more in all it's SMIMified splendor and beautyEdited by forum42087, 22 August 2017 - 01:41 AM.

ThatDirtyShisno wrote: The file's description tells you what the difference is.Skyrim Special Edition uses slightly more optimized mesh/model formats. The normal SMIM version uses the old original Skyrim format so I can have it work on both game versions.
Renamed mod name in Nexus Mod Manager to just 'Static Mesh Improvement Mod' so it can be found more easily. Fixed incorrect UV that was causing alpha transparency (vanilla mesh errors) in these meshes: signalchemyshop01.nif and signrtalchemyshop01.nif.
The optimized version only works on Skyrim SE, and honestly I've never seen any real performance or framerate improvements, but it does save about 200mb of hard drive space.Use the optimized version if you don't care about any custom install options and want a full install of SMIM. Cheers Brumbek, you sir are the Daedric Lord of Meshes & Models and have helped me and many others enjoy this great game even more in all it's SMIMified splendor and beautyHi there, the game will always use whatever texture path the model specifies. So yes, when SMIM edits a mesh and points to new SMIM textures within the mesh, the game will use the SMIM textures directory path. This will make it so some textures in a texture replacer won't be used by the game. This usually isn't a big deal since most people think SMIM's textures are improvements enough. However, some users will prefer a certain texture replacer visual style, and there's really no way to force the SMIM meshes to use those textures because the reason I change the texture paths is because I change the actual layout (UV mapping) of the meshes so my custom SMIM textures are needed.
A texture replacer would have to create custom SMIM-UV-formatted textures and then name them exactly how SMIM names them with the same directory path. Phew.and thanks for saying I'm a Daedric Lord! I should put that on my resume! OrangeShade wrote: Thanks for the update!' SMIM'd all relevant MineLargeHall meshes (26 meshes named minelhallXXX.nif) used in over 300 places. The scaffolding now uses my custom textures and proper seamless UV mapping. The positions of the wood beams was also greatly improved on many meshes to reduce clipping or look more realistic.
This is part of the Dungeons 3D Ropes and Glorious Scaffolding install option.' Does this mean that the fix listed here:no longer necessary? No. It means the SMIM style scaffolding texture is used in MORE places. I know many users seem to hate my new texture. That's fair enough. I wanted to make a warn/rotting/mildew wood texture, but it seems many users want a pristine wood texture like the one in Noble Skyrim.
Fair enough I suppose.I will look at making a new texture style for users who like the look of clean wood in their dungeons. That's probably my next assignment for the next version. Static Mesh Improvement Mod Smim Build
That's probably my next assignment for the next version.Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. What you have already is great for realistic or 'darker' playthroughs, but the cleaner stuff is great for a more 'high fantasy' look, too. Variety, spices and whatnot.Edited by OrangeShade, 22 August 2017 - 02:16 AM. Brumbek wrote: Hello SMIM friends!! I've returned to finally update SMIM!
I just couldn't let myself abandon SMIM. I love working on SMIM, and I love seeing all of you enjoy SMIM! So after way too many months here's an update with some good new stuff and improved prior SMIM'd stuff. The main addition is I finally SMIM'd the hideous Imperial Jail cell meshes used in hundreds of places. Now they are.
Plus, the mesh with the cell door now as REAL collision so you can shoot through the bars! The default game has mocked me for years with it's lame single rectangle collision that bounces arrows right off mid-air.Hopefully the new file works fine for everyone. I'm a bit out of practice with updates. Lastly, thank you SO much for all the kind souls who have donated over the last months! Getting a donation every week or so has REALLY motivated me to not abandon SMIM! More SMIM to come I hope!

Welcome back! Tuff308 wrote: WOOOOOO Congrats dude. Thanks for the updateBrumbek wrote: Thanks for the nice comments! Glad to be back. I've also uploaded an alternate Special Edition full install file under the optional files. It is the full install without any installer or options. Use this file if you prefer a full SMIM install and want a slightly smaller file size and a theoretical tiny performance improvement on slower computers (hard drives).
